New Seconded Positions in Initial Teacher Education

The Ontario Institute for Studies in Education of the University of Toronto is inviting applications for full-time, three-year seconded positions from Ontario school boards to teach in the Bachelor of Education, Diploma in Technical Education and Master of Teaching programs beginning in September, 2003. As a secondee in any of our programs you will be expected to take on a leadership role and work collaboratively on program development. You will help to establish and support school-university partnerships and supervise candidates during practicum and internship periods.

 

#1 Bachelor of Education (Elementary Program)

Positions are available for individuals with teaching experience at the elementary level and credentials in one or more of the following areas: Language Arts, Mathematics Education, Curriculum Planning, and Assessment and Evaluation. We are seeking persons who can teach a variety of courses. They would work with a small faculty team to develop the timetable and program for a cohort of teacher candidates and help to arrange and supervise their teaching placements.

#2 Bachelor of Education (Secondary Program)

Positions are available for individuals with teaching experience at the secondary level and credentials in one or more of the following areas: Mathematics Education, Broad-based Technology and Technological Studies Education, Special Education and Adaptive Instruction, Educational Psychology and Human Development (specifically cognitive approaches to learning). We are seeking persons who can supervise teaching placements and teach in foundational courses (covering topics such as classroom management and student assessment) as well as in the specified curriculum and instruction or foundations courses listed above.

#3 Master of Teaching Program

Individuals must have a doctorate in education and teaching experience at the elementary level. Credentials are necessary in one or more of the following areas: Mathematics Education, Science, Special Education and Adaptive Instruction, Educational Psychology and Child Development, and the Arts (specifically Music, Visual Arts, Drama). We are seeking persons who can teach a variety of courses. They would work with a small faculty team to develop the timetable and program for a cohort of teacher candidates and help to arrange and supervise their teaching placements.

 

Preferred candidates will possess:

Interested candidates should submit a letter of application which clearly indicates interest in one of the three teacher education programs described above. Interest in more than one program will require a separate letter and full set of documentation. The letter should also include employment status for September 2003 (e.g. school board employee, retiree, etc.), and be accompanied by a current curriculum vitae (including e-mail address and names and contact information of three references).
